Navigating AI Adoption in Safety Net Healthcare: Real-World Insights from the Practice Network
Safety net healthcare organizations face unique challenges in adopting AI technologies, from limited resources to complex regulatory requirements. While AI holds significant promise for improving patient outcomes and operational efficiency, successful implementation requires careful navigation of technical, organizational, and ethical considerations. Health AI Partnership’s Practice Network program has worked with five diverse safety net organizations to address the emerging AI digital divide through structured technical assistance and peer collaboration.
This session will examine the real-world experiences of the first cohort of the HAIP Practice Network using HAIP’s 8 Key Decision Points framework to analyze implementation journeys.

Ciera Thomas, MPH
Ciera Thomas, MPH, is a Research and Product Manager at the Duke Institute for Health Innovation (DIHI) and part of the Coordinating Center for the Health AI Partnership (HAIP). She coordinates day-to-day operations for HAIP’s technical assistance program, the Practice Network, and facilitates partnerships to advance responsible health AI adoption. With a background in public health, she focuses on promoting health equity through building local capacity.

Sena Kpodzro, MPH, is a Research and Product Manager at the Duke Institute for Health Innovation (DIHI) and the Health AI Partnership (HAIP).
